google-overhauls-android-market-for-new-featuresGoogle’s Android Market has just been overhauled, gearing towards a larger number of popular and high quality applications for users.

The latest features, including “Editor’s Choices” and editorial endorsements, currently reside on Android Market’s Web version, but will arrive on smartphones and tablets soon, Google wrote in a blog post and announced at the Google I/O 2011 developer conference in San Francisco.

Chris Yerga, Director of Engineering for Google Cloud Services said, “The Web version of the Market allows us to iterate quickly.”

Android Market’s latest version offers five new features, including the “Editor’s Choice” lists, new top app charts, related apps, top developers list, and trending apps.

Google announced the revamp after its keynote on the first Chrome OS “Chromebooks,” along with plans for various working environments, including businesses, governments, and schools.

The “Editor’s Choice” list will contain favorites and picks by the Google staff themselves.

In addition, Google will highlight its favorite developers in terms of popularity and quality, and attach an earned star next to their names. The first “Editor’s Choice” list will include 150 developers.
