Google has an insatiable appetite for coming up with new products and features—and it never surprises me that the company is right there among the very best in the world. Sometimes in June 2018, the search engine giant began testing a Pinterest-like feature on desktop that allows users to products by image. A couple of other tests and product launch had since been made, and we are now being told that Google is currently testing a personalized shopping homepage in France.

Per 9to5google, the new Google Shopping site with a new icon, Material Theme design, and personalized focus was spotted in France. As you may have already known, Google Shopping is a service that offers its users the opportunity to compare services/products across several retail shops. Probably because of its popularity and success, Google integrated the service into Google Search with its own tab and results filter. The search giant also added Knowledge Panels for products that include details as well as pricing.

Google began its test for the personalized shopping in India, before numerama, a French news site spotted it in France. It is not immediately clear at this time if Google is planning a global launch, but successful outing in those countries [India and France] may lead to a wider roll out.

Last June, Google confirmed to TechCrunch that it was testing a Pinterest-like feature that will allow users search products by images. The feature will align pictures vertically instead of the usual horizontal mode, which will make the results look more like the way it is done in Pinterest. Images, according to the report, will now have short captions and sometimes small badges that will provide more information on what it is.

When an image is clicked, you will get more dynamic information about what you are seeing. You can see information about a product and whether it is in stock and place your order. This is especially possible if the selling website has an existing working relationship with Google Shopping.

Confirming the test, a Google spokesperson said per TechCrunch that: “We’re constantly experimenting to improve our experience with Google Images and don’t have anything further to announce at this time.”

At the start of the current year, Google updated its Manufacturer Center. The update, according to Google, will enable businesses to add their own custom product information within searches that are relevant to what they offer. Google Manufacturer which was launched in 2015, is a service that allows businesses upload specific product queries.

The new update will allow businesses to add custom product information to augment relevant search results. This is made possible from the manufacturer panel added to the listings. “To help you assist your customers and highlight your products’ unique features, we’re launching a new section on Shopping product detail pages, featuring content directly from you.”
