Google is looking to expand its mobile payment service Tez to four other countries aside India, reports the Financial Times. Tez is proving to be a successful payment app after all, and it is good news to Google because it means the platform is not going to be drowned in the ocean of competition that is the Indian market.
The mobile payment app which recently added a chat feature, is set to rollout in four more countries before the end of the year. The report further adds that the four countries have already been established and could usher Tez into four other emerging markets.
Three of the countries are said to be in Asia, while the fourth one, which is also yet to be identified, could be in any of the other emerging markets in Africa or elsewhere.
For Google, it is an opportunity to test and move into new grounds. While its service in India is relatively new, the company could yet hit the ground running in those new territories if all works out as planned.
Google Tez uses UPI (Unified Payments Interface) and is designed to work with all major banks, including Axis, HDFC Bank, ICICI and State Bank of India. Since it uses UPI, the new app will allow you to transfer money to other users at no cost. You will be able to enjoy a simplified checkout system while using Tez. Credit card support and third-party wallets have also been added to enable the new platform compete with popular wallets like Paytm and Mobikwik.
Not long after the app made its entrance into the Indian market, Google Tez added the ability to pay bills within the app. You can pay your electricity bills, broadband bills, and many others. You will also be able to retrieve your billing history and pay off your outstanding bills with just a few taps.
More than 80 organizations have signed on to be a part of Google Tez, including national and state electric, gas and water, and TV/internet services.
Simply tap on “New Payment” and then “Pay your bills.” Once done, a list of supported billers on Tez across locations will be presented to you or, if you like, you can manually search for them by name. Once the biller of your choice has been located, simply enter the number associated with your bank account to link to Tez, and don’t forget to give it a name that you can easily remember each time you want to pay your bill.
For recurring utility bills, Google Tez payments will fetch any new bill and send you a timely notification when it arrives. You can easily check if you have paid a bill by tapping on the biller’s name on your Tez home screen. This will enable you to view previous payments grouped by biller, and you will be able to manage bills from multiple accounts.
