Google Introduces New Acer C7 Chromebook

Google and Acer introduced today an addition to the Chromebook family of personal computers with the new Acer C7 Chromebook.

The Chrome OS maker and the hardware maker boast the Acer C7 Chromebook for its seamless user experience due to faster speed, enhanced built-in security and ease of updates.

The 1-inch 3-pound computer comes with a full-size physical keyboard, a clickable trackpad, an 11.6-inch display and more than 3.5 hours of battery life.

Acer provided a 320GB internal hard drive but Google added 100GB of free storage on Google Drive, which means it now joins an elite few of Chromebooks with a free online locker for two years. The Samsung Chromebook, Samsung Chromebook Series 5 550 and Samsung Chromebox Series 3 – excluding the Cr-48, Acer AC700, and Samsung Chromebook Series 5 – also are eligible to this offer.

The Acer C7 Chromebook runs on Chrome OS, which means it has built-in Google apps and other Google software enhancements.

In August this year, Google released a Chrome OS update for users to save files directly to Google Drive, add custom wallpapers, experience a redesigned Cloud Print dialog. New features include a new apps launcher, a universal search box (omnibox), audio support through USB and HDMI ports, new sandboxing security, and several bug fixes.

Acer used a fast Intel Core processor on its Chromebook to achieve fast boot times of less than 20 seconds. It also allows internet connectivity from 30,000 feet above ground with 12 free sessions of Gogo Inflight Internet.

Starting on Tuesday, November 13, the Acer C7 Chromebook will sell for $199 in the U.S. from Google Play, and this week in select Best Buy stores. U.K. customers can order it at Google Play, Amazon UK, PC World or Currys. A global roll out is already in the works.

“Together with Acer, it’s great to welcome the newest addition to the Chromebook family. We hope it will make a great additional computer for your family, too. New Chromebooks, for everyone,” said Sundar Pichai, SVP, Chrome & Apps, in a blog post.
