Google finally took heed to the demand of publishers to add larger advertisement banners to its AdSense network.
“As screens grow and web content continues to become richer, the format and capabilities of ad units continue to evolve as well,” said Omer Gimenez Llach, UI Engineer, Google AdSense. “One of the top requests from publishers in the last year has been to add larger ad sizes to our network, and today we’re excited to announce that the popular 300×600 unit will soon be available in your AdSense account.”
Often called a half page unit, the new 300×600 ad size provides more space for advertisers to convey their message and can increase click-through rates (CTRs).
Google’s Display Business Trends found that the 300×600 unit is one of the fastest growing sizes by impressions and is indicative of publishers’ trend of offering ad sizes with more visual impact that brand advertisers prefer.
“Because this unit is new to our network, you’ll currently see a large number of text ads in these placements. Over time we’ll continue to build a wide range of text and display ad inventory eligible to appear in this full slot as well,” said Llach.
Like all ad banner sizes, it is critical for publishers to consider carefully the placement of ads to ensure both users and advertisers get the best visual experience from a website.
