Germany’s information technology security agency warned on Wednesday about iOS security issues it described as “critical weaknesses” with Apple mobile operating system.
The critical iOS security issues have the potential to affect millions of people around the world given the popularity of Apple devices.
The iOS mobile operating system currently powers Apple devices including the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch.
The agency warned that these critical iOS security issues include some which may give access to confidential data, which include passwords, SMS messages and emails, of users of these devices.
A user accessing a rigged PDF file “is sufficient to infect the mobile device with malware without the user’s knowledge,” The Associated Press quotes the agency.
According to the agency, the critical iOS security issues “allow possible attackers to gain administrator rights and get access to the entire system,” the AP reports.
