Facebook on Friday published a 20 page security guide for teens, parents, and teachers on its website titled “A Guide to Facebook Security” to help teach them about the best ways to protect their privacy and safety on the internet.
Security experts Linda McCarthy Keith Watson, and Denise Weldon-Siviy, a teacher and editor worked together to write the security guide, which covers topics like choosing the best password to make your Facebook account secure, using the website’s advances security features like one time passwords, HTTPS encryption, and log-in notifications; taking back control of a hacked account, realizing when one is dealing with an imposter, and recognizing and avoiding phishing and other, similar scams.
Linda McCarthy worked as Senior Director of Internet Safety at Symantec, and has over 20 years experience in the IT security sector. Mr. Watson is an IT researcher at Purdue University.
The authors write in the guide’s introduction that it is intended to help you the Facebook member “Own Your Own Space” and….”to understand what Facebook is doing to make the site safe and secure and to take the actions that are needed in this digital world to protect yourself and your account.”
