Social media behemoth Facebook is getting more creative when it comes to celebrating special occasions like birthdays and anniversaries. The company, according to Matt Navarra, has started prompting users to send Gift Cards to their friends on their birthday.
Navarra posted a screenshot of the images showing samples of the Gift Cards in different denominations. The Gift Cards come in different categories including a $25 Uber Gift Card, a $20 Sephora Gift, and a $20 Starbucks card.
You will be prompted to send any of the cards to any of your friends celebrating his birthday, which is actually new on the social media platform. It takes celebrating a friend’s birthday to an entirely new height—one that is different from just sending videos and e-cards.
We still don’t know if the roll out is on a global scale or a limited test; regardless, we expect a brilliant idea like this to hit the roof. By sending Gift Cards to friends and loved ones on Facebook, you are actually showing how much you care for the fellow in more ways than just sending pictures and a couple of videos.

People can now look forward to getting more than wishes and a couple of fun videos when next they are celebrating their birthdays—imagine getting a Gift Card that enables you to take an Uber ride?
A couple of weeks ago, Facebook launched the ability to add cards, videos, and pictures to birthday stories. The social media giant launched birthday stories on a global stage that allows everyone add digital birthday cards, photos or videos to a story to celebrate a friend’s big day.
To create a digitalized birthday card for a friend or loved one, all you have to do is to tap on the birthday notification, upload or shoot a photo or short video or use an existing Facebook digital birthday card. You can also add a music sticker to give your story a “Happy Birthday” soundtrack. Once this is done, your wish will be added to your friend’s birthday story, creating a personalized slideshow for them.
Birthday reminder remains one of the very few reasons why most people have remained stuck with Facebook. The fact that you get alerted to a friend’s birthday on Facebook is one of the reasons relationships don’t get crumbled—you don’t have to commit to memory a friend’s birthdate since you constantly get reminders from Facebook.
“500 million people use Facebook Stories every day. This community has shown us just how creative and thoughtful birthday wishes can be — whether with a series of funny photos or a video reminiscing about past birthdays spent together. Sharing these photos, videos and memories can make a birthday even more special,” Jehan Damji, Product Manager at Facebook said.
