Facebook Messenger’s artificial intelligence ‘M’ now prompts you to send birthday messages to friends. Thus is in keeping up with Facebook’s vision of making its AI more interactive and attractive to users on the platform.

Matt Navarra posted a screenshot of the new update on his Twitter page showing how the ‘M’ assistant is now able to prompt you to send birthday messages to your loved one on the messaging app.

This is in addition to the usual birthday reminders you usually receive from Messenger’s parent company Facebook virtually every other day. You will have among other options, the ability to send a friend a song via Spotify, a birthday GIF, and images.

It is an update that a lot of users would love considering the fact that all they need to do is to choose any of the options provided in the app. For instance, you could decide to send a song when words are barely enough to express your feelings. As a matter of fact, most social media and messaging apps now offer users different options other than composing a few words when sending out birthday messages.

In 2017, the social media giant announced that ‘M’ will suggest features to use during conversation. The Messenger will suggest or recommend a “bye-bye” GIF if someone is saying goodbye for example or suggest its payments feature if you write “You owe me $20” during conversation.

‘M’ will privately interject the suggestions above the redesigned one-line message composer in your Messenger conversations. The good thing is, the other person at the other end [the person you are having the conversation with] won’t see the outcome unless you allow it.

From just being a small artificial intelligence powered by humans in 2016, Facebook said “M” has learned a lot and has developed into a useful feature help users during chats.

“We learned a lot and these interactions have enabled us to build a completely automated version of M that suggests helpful actions in your chat, exposing features people may not have known were available right in Messenger. Suggestions from M has been testing with a small percentage of users for the past few months — and it has been a great success — today we’re expanding it to all Messenger users in the US.”

Facebook did say that its artificial intelligence was still learning and expanding its dictionary at the time, but part of what has been added is the ability to now prompt you to send birthday messages to friends.

Some other things ‘M’ could help you do include sending stickers: M shares fun sticker suggestions for your daily life interactions like “Thank you” or “Bye-bye.” It can also recognize when people are discussing payments and gives them the option of easily sending or requesting money.
