Facebook just turned 14 on February 4, 2018. And every February 4th, the company celebrated it with a self-proclaimed “Friends Day.”
This year, the social media created pre-populated Friends Day videos about the memories you shared with your friends on Facebook. But you can always choose your own photos to include in the video.
Last year, Facebook stated that over 600 million of users shared Friends Day videos. But the number didn’t surpass the more than 750 million friendships formed every day on the said platform.
Yesterday’s Friends Day was entirely different from the last because the company created a Friends Awards. After adding photos in your Friends video, you can choose a Friends Awards. Several categories are available, like “Bestie,” “Big-Hearted,” “Makes Any Time a Good Time,” “Knows How To Make Me Laugh,” etc. It’s a nice feature that allows your best friend to feel special on that day.
Apart from the said awards, the company also added new filters for Friends Day. Doing so will help you and your friends to celebrate how you supported one another throughout the year.
This Friends award is another way for you to express how you value your friends. In addition to giving your friends some awards, you can also praise their success by posting or cheering for their work accomplishments, for example.
Are friendships on Facebook real?
For some Facebook users, most of their friends on the platform aren’t their real friends. Younger users have more Facebook friends. However, older users have more real friends. The reason for this is that social media encourages “friending” of an individual without a real connection.
Although there are ways to have face-to-face interactions with Facebook friends, some people opt not to. And it’s one of the reasons it has become difficult for them to invest in that relationship and maintain an emotional connection.
Despite that, there are still benefits of making social media friends. On social media, you can find friends from different countries and learn their culture and lifestyle.
Furthermore, you can learn from them because these people are comfortable in expressing their opinion. You don’t have to respond to a message immediately. That is, you can take time to contemplate on what to replay before sending it.
However, online friends are not always dependable. They can disappear overnight. If you provide a lot of details about yourself to your online friends, you’re revealing your identity that could be risky and dangerous. Thus, you must be careful in “friending” someone online. Don’t let your guards down.
Friendship is about trust. But it’s not easy to trust a person you just met online. That said, your friendship with that person may not be a meaningful one.
Nevertheless, Facebook and other social media sites can give you endless of business opportunities. You can use them to connect with your real friends even though they’re miles away from you. With Facebook’s tools, you can host a gratitude party to know that you appreciate their friendship all these years.
