Facebook Camera is not so much Instagram's competition as it is the main Facebook app's complement (Image: Thomas Hawk (CC) via Flickr)
Facebook Camera makes sharing photos on the social networking site easy, but Hipstamatic and Instagram are still more popular than this new app. They are more addicting and have more tools for editing pictures.
When Facebook introduced the new Camera app, many were confused. Just a few weeks before this, the company bought Instagram for a billion dollars.
Both apps can be obtained for free, and they share similar functionalities and features, such as the ability to scroll through other people’s posted photos, and the availability of similar filters and tools.
However, Facebook Camera is not so much Instagram’s competition as it is an aggregate to the Facebook app.
Facebook Camera offers various editing options such as crop, straighten, and you can choose from 14 different filters, such as “Light” and “Cool.”
These filters are not as impressive as those found in Instagram. Also, compared with other photo-editing apps such as Snapseed or PhotoToaster, Camera doesn’t offer as much editing control.
Another problem that Facebook Camera has is that Facebook’s design is not really primarily for sharing photos with friends. That’s just one of the many things one can do on the site. In contrast, people follow users on Instagram mainly to check out their high quality photos.
Facebook Camera, however, is the easiest way to post photos on the social networking site for other people to see. The Camera app plays the same role as do other Facebook apps – it complements the main social networking site.
Instagram is available for both Apple and Android devices, while the Facebook app only works for Apple devices.
