Sheryl Sandberg, chief operating officer for Facebook, former vice president of global online sales and operations for Google and a Fortune 50 listed most powerful women in business aims to encourage every small business to use Facebook.
“My dream is really simple. I think every small business should….be using Facebook. We’re not going to stop until all of them are using it to grow their business” Sandberg said.
Next week Facebook will announce a new program to make this happen – the social networking giant will give up to 200,000 small business free advertising credits of fifty dollars. Normally advertisers must pay a set rate of between 25 and 50 cents for every click through of a company’s advertisement, but with this incentive program Facebook will pay for the first $50 worth of clicks.
Sandberg said the fifty dollar credit will make it possible for small businesses to reach everyone they want at least one time, so that they can increase their business. “Credits like that go a long way. For $50, most small businesses can target every single person they need to target at least once, and then they can grow their business from there”, she explained.
Facebook also has the benefit of helping advertisers more precisely target and reach their intended audience. For example, a manufacturer of scuba diving equipment can focus its paid advertizing campaigns on people living in a certain zipcode and with a stated interest in this activity.
