Verizon Wireless and Nokia have made it official: the Nokia Lumia 822 is coming to Verizon, exclusive for the wireless carrier’s Fall portfolio.
However, the information shared by Nokia and Verizon is still lacking when and for how much exactly the Nokia 822 will be offered.
The announcement comes after a leak in the previous weeks of an alleged photo of the Lumia 822 which, by the way, appears to have been genuine.
Official specifications shared by Nokia include just its “8MP camera with industry leading optics from Carl Zeiss, alongside a 1.2MP HD front-facing camera for crystal clear video calls,” an “exchangeable shell design, sold separately, which supports wireless charging,” “Nokia Drive+” which is a “turn-by-turn voice navigation solution,” “Nokia City Lens” which is “a new augmented reality experience that also enhances Nokia Maps” and the ability of the Lumia 822 to work on Verizon’s 4G LTE network.
Of course, the Lumia 822 comes with Windows Phone 8.
We’ll share details about the Lumia 822 as they become available.
UPDATE 1: From Nokia’s Lumia 822 product page which is now up, official specs included a 4.3-inch screen presumably the same AMOLED screen of the Lumia 820. This screen has a resolution of 800 x 480 pixels so no HD screen for you.
The Lumia 822 also comes with a dual-core 1.5 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 chip which, although isn’t specified, we venture has Krait cores.
RAM is 1GB, internal memory is 16GB (plus 7GB on Microsoft SkyDrive) and the Lumia 822 includes a MicroSD card slot that takes up to a whopping 64GB card.
The battery, rated at 1,800 mAh is removable and it is tucked in a 123.8 x 68.5 x 9.9 mm chassis that weighs 160 g.
For connectors, there are microUSB charging connector, microUSB data connector, 3.5 mm universal audio connector all microUSB 2.0.
Wireless connectivity is taken care of by Bluetooth 3.0, Near Field Communication, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, Qi Wireless Charging and Wi-Fi Channel Bonding.
Estimated data speeds are at HSUPA Cat 6 – 5.76 Mbit/s and LTE Cat 3 – 50 Mbit/s for uplinks and EGPRS MSC 12 – 236.8 kbit/s, HSDPA Cat 24 – 42.2 Mbit/s, LTE Cat 3 – 100 Mbit/s for downlinks.
Colors are black, white and grey.
Although no specific availability has yet been announced except that the Lumia 822 will be added to Verizon’s Fall portfolio and that it’s coming before thanksgiving, Nokia USA’s page for the Lumia 822 indicates the smartphone will come for $99. Of course, that’s subsidized and should come with a new two-year contract with Verizon Wireless.
Nokia’s full announcement of the Lumia 822 follows after the break.
