After more than a decade of having its logo with a rowdy arrangement, eBay has unveiled a new logo that is more minimalist.
The announcement from the internet e-commerce powerhouse was made by the its President Devin Wenig in a post on the eBay site.
According to the executive, the new eBay logo grounds itself on the company’s “proud history” and is at the same time a reflection of the company’s “dynamic future”.
Wenig wrote that “It’s eBay today: a global online marketplace that offers a cleaner, more contemporary and consistent experience, with innovation that makes buying and selling easier and more enjoyable.”
For the new logo, the e-commerce veteran has largely retained the colors of the old logo but has selected a new font type and a straight alignment for the logo.
Wenig said that they “retained core elements of our logo, including our iconic color palette.”
“Our vibrant eBay colors and touching letters represent our connected and diverse eBay community – more than 100 million active users and 25 million sellers globally and growing,” the president explained.
Nonetheless, Wenig said that refreshing the logo “was not a decision made lightly” as the logo has now become very popular and recognized around the world.
However, he explained that “The time felt right”.
The executive then goes on to admire how eBay has evolved since its start in 1995 when it connected “a seller with a buyer who wanted a broken laser pointer.”
The company has certainly grown.
According to the data the tech industry veteran included in its announcement of its new logo, it has now grown to be far more than an auction site.
eBay said that 70 percent of its listings are new items. The company added that 65 percent of its items sold are at fixed price.
The company also said that it has served 350 million listings. It also serves almost 260,000,000 searches every single day.
The marketplace has also continued to cross borders. The company said that one in five sales are cross-border.
The marketplace is also becoming more mobile with over 100 million eBay mobile app downloads. The company estimates that it will get more than $10 billion in transactions over its mobile system for this year.
With the new logo and the direction the company is going, Wenig promised that the company intends to create new ways to sell and buy. It will also “keep creating better ways to buy and sell,” Wenig said.
The new eBay logo will be deployed on the eBay site and in marketing campaigns in the middle of next month.
