The press conference held by Sony at the Electronic Entertainment Expo 2012 (E3 2012) managed to make waves among video games fans, with the event offering new details about a firsthand series of games such as Beyond: Two Souls, from the producers of Heavy Rain, the next God of War named Ascension, which will arrive in March 2013, and The Last of Us.
The portable gaming console PlayStation Vita was also in the big picture, following games like Assassin’s Creed III: Liberation and All-Stars Battle Royale.
Beyond: Two Souls
Quantic Dream, producer of the brilliant Heavy Rain, is coming back with a very promising new project called Beyond: Two Souls. A psychological thriller with superb graphics that focuses on the story of Jodie Holmes (played by actress Ellen Page – Inception, Juno), a young woman with supernatural powers who has a special connection with an entity named Aiden.
After watching the trailer we can expect a memorable open-ended story full of emotion and intensity.
God of War: Ascension
Kratos once again sticks fear into the Olympus gods in a new game for the defining series of PlayStation. If until now we could learn more about the multiplayer mode, during the E3 conference, producers gave us a picture on how the single player mode will look like, as well as a precise launch date – March 12, 2013.
In terms of fight, Ascension introduces the possibility to use chained enemies as weapons, while the player can also use the classic sword attack, steal and use enemies’ weapons against them, and influence the flow of time. Impressive, but not quite revolutionary, the franchise feels the need for more substantial changes.
The Last of Us
This game of survival in a post-apocalyptic landscape dominated by fungus monsters and unscrupulous characters pushes to extreme gestures by the need to stay alive.
Although we have had the chance in the past to learn more about The Last of Us, the game produced by Naughty Dog (Uncharted series), the presentation at the E3 offered a new perspective on the game mechanics, of the interaction between the two main characters, Joel and Ellie, and over the other survivors of the epidemic.
