Cricket has revealed that it will be the first carrier to carry a prepaid iPhone 4S as well as a prepaid iPhone 4 when it begins selling the Apple smartphones on June 22.
In an announcement released by Cricket, it revealed that it will sell a 16GB prepaid iPhone 4S for $499.99 and an 8GB prepaid iPhone 4 for $399.99.
“Our customers want the best products available and we are excited to bring iPhone to our pre-paid consumers with an industry leading $55 per-month service plan,” Cricket’s Doug Hutcheson said.
“Launching iPhone is a major milestone for us and we are proud to offer iPhone customers attractive nationwide coverage, a robust 3G data network and a value-packed, no-contract plan,” the Leap Wireless International, Inc. president and chief executive officer added.
Cricket Communications, which operates the Cricket Wireless brand and offers “unlimited” data plans governed by a “fair use policy” which puts a limit to data use to 2.3GB per month, is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Leap Wireless.
According to Cricket, the prepaid iPhone 4S and prepaid iPhone 4 smartphones they will be selling are completely compatible with their $55 per month service plan.
For a fee of $55 per month, the carrier offers unlimited calls, unlimited texts, and the “unlimited” data plan we’ve mentioned earlier.
With this plan and its prepaid scheme, Cricket has 6.2 million customers. It’s networks are powered by 4G LTE and 3G CDMA. Not that that matters much to the prepaid iPhone 4S and prepaid iPhone 4 since they do not have 4G.
The company has been in the news recently because AT&T has been reported to have negotiated with Leap for the smaller carrier to buy assets from AT&T once and if its bid to acquire T-Mobile went through. AT&T reportedly did this to convince regulators to pass its acquisition of T-Mobile. However, the deal did not materialize.
Another recent report has revealed that AT&T did not only want to sell T-Mobile assets to Leap, it wanted to buy Leap Wireless – and by extension Cricket – outright.
Meanwhile, according to Cricket, those who will be buying the prepaid iPhones from them can do so in Cricket company-owned stores and select dealers in nearly 60 markets.
Those who want to buy the prepaid iPhone 4S and prepaid iPhone 4 from Cricket can head on over to www.mycricket.com/iphone and or call the carrier at 800-853-7682.
