Barnes & Noble is all but set to sell its popular Nook eBook reader and related digital contents in the UK.
The company, which is the largest book retailer in the US, has yet to reveal pricing details but a quick guess will have it in the £100 to £200 range. If that price becomes a reality, the Nook will be in direct competition with Amazon’s bestselling Kindle.
Barnes & Noble announced that the first variant to sell in the UK will be the Simple Touch and Simple Touch with Glowlight, which in the US cost $100 and $139, respectively.
To purchase associated digital content, consumers can visit Nook.co.uk when it launches next monh, with prices, partnerships and supported retailers to be announced shortly after it goes live.
“We are proud to be able to offer our top-rated line of NOOK reading devices and our award-winning digital bookstore to the discerning and highly educated consumers in the UK,” said William J. Lynch, CEO at Barnes & Noble.
“We’re confident our award-winning technology, combined with our expansive content – including books, children’s books, magazines, apps, movies and more – will bring UK customers the option they’ve been waiting for.”
Barnes & Noble added that the Nook store will have more than 2.5 million titles, which include books, comics and magazines.
