Anticipating a avalanche of Windows 8 tablets, which will be presented at the IFA Fair in Berlin, those from Asus decided to steal the spotlight right from the start, revealing two new tablets with Windows 8, including removable docks, shaped in the Transformer series tablet style: Vivo Tab and Vivo Tab RT.
Asus Vivo Tab is a n 11.6-inch screen tablet, built around an Intel Atom processor platform. More precisely, we are dealing with a LCD display based on an IPS technology, with 1366×768 pixels resolution and with a capacitive multitouch interface. The Atom processor is supported by 2 GB RAM and Windows 8 is hosted on an SSD with a capacity of 64 GB. Configuration includes a 8 MP rear camera with autofocus and LED flash, a 2 megapixel front camera for video calls, along with NFC connectivity and WiFi N. The whole package weighs no more than 680 grams.
Asus Vivo Tab RT is slightly smaller, weighs less than 500 grams and measures 8.4 mm in thickness. We have an IPS screen with 1366×768 pixels resolution but measuring only 10.1 inches. The configuration is using this time an NVIDIA Tegra 3 processor, composed of a quad-core CPU and GeForce GPU, equipped with 12 processor cores. We get the same of 2 GB of RAM as the Asus Vivo Tab, but the internal storage capacity was reduced to 32 GB. Vivo Tab RT offers the same set of cameras and connectivity options like the Vivo Tab 11.6-inch model, but as the name implies, the tablet is delivered with the Windows RT operating system.
Both tablets can be used together with a removable dock, equipped with a QWERTY keyboard, trackpad, two additional USB ports and auxiliary battery, designed to expand mobility.
Asus unfortunately have not declared a purchase price and the date on which the new tablets Vivo Vivo Tab and Vivo Tab RT can be found in stores.
