Apple is doing everything within its power to sustain its working relationship with China as reports have emerged that the company is working with Chinese carriers to reduce spam on iMessage. According to Reuters, Apple is currently speaking with telecom firms in China cut down on the amount of spam received through iMessage. This is coming a couple of days after the company was accused of allowing illegal content on the messaging service.
In a 30-minute special report aired last Tuesday, the state media announced that Apple allowed illegal content such as gambling to thrive on its apps. This portend grave danger for the American company should things be allowed to continue that way without any action being taken—and fast too.
“We are in touch with domestic telco companies to see what additional steps could be taken to reduce this inconvenience,” an Apple spokesperson told Reuters last week.
This bit of information was also confirmed by state-owned media China News Service when it reported that Chinese telecom companies and Apple are currently working on measures to reduce spam messages being sent on the messaging service.
“We are currently working on additional ways to further reduce it, including more advanced machine learning models to identify it and more tools to block fraudulent accounts,” the Apple spokesperson said, per Reuters.
Apple is facing similar battle in India where the company is being threatened with an iPhone block certain actions remain untaken by the company. If Apple fails to enable a “Do Not Call” reporting app on its devices, regulatory authorities might block the iPhones in India. Apple at first was not comfortable about the idea due to privacy concerns, but seems to have bowed to pressure and will now work with Telecom Regulatory Authority of India.
Apple last week achieved the remarkable feat of being the first US company to hit a $1 trillion market cap. Apple’s feat can be attributed to record sales in its iPhone X, as well as its other line of services and products.

Apple’s impressive profit was also aided by good showings from Apple Music, iCloud, and Apple Care with a combined 31 percent increase of $9.55 billion in revenue.
The US and China continue to be the critical markets for the company’s products and services. As a matter of fact, Apple is currently the dominant provider of choice in the US ahead of Spotify in terms of music service. Apple Music is said to be ahead of Spotify in the US, generating more subscribers than its biggest rival.
Within three years, Apple Music achieved the 20 million turning point, which is remarkable considering the popularity of Spotify, which took more than three years to gain.
