Apple apparently is very confident in its market-defining iPad.
Contradicting earlier sales forecasts of 40 to 50 million iPads for next year, Apple Inc. is rumored to be ordering 65 million iPad screens for 2011.
An indication of how many units of the device the consumer electronics giant is planning to manufacture next year, the order is cited by analysts as staggering and could drive a shortage of displays for other manufacturers.
The report comes from DigiTimes and says that 35 million displays may be ordered by Apple from LG, 15 million from Samsung and and 15 million from Chimei Innolux.
The size of the order also prompts doubts about estimates by some experts that Apple’s iPad may be toppled as the king of tablet devices next year by other tablets led by Samsung’s Galaxy Tab.
Apple remained confident about its iPad, however, as the company has said earlier that the iPad is a culmination of all things learned by the firm so far.
The report by DigiTimes says that LG shipped 1.5 million iPad screens for November while Samsung shipped 1.2 million iPad screens for the same month.
