Apple contractor Foxconn may begin cutting jobs as the founder of the company has revealed that the firm plans to replace workers with 1 million robots over the next three years.
The news comes via the English version of China’s state news Agency Xinhua which revealed that Foxconn Chairman Terry Gou revealed the plans late last Friday.
Ironically, the announcement came from the company founder during a workers’ dance party.
According to the report, Foxconn aims to make robots will replace human workers doing “simple and routine work such as spraying, welding and assembling”.
Those tasks are currently being done by human Foxconn employees.
Foxconn currently has 1.2 million employees with 1 million based in mainland China, the Xinhua news agency reports.
Next year, Foxconn is said to increase its robot count from 10,000 currently to 3,000. Within three years, Foxconn will have 1 million robots in its factories.
