Smartphones running on Google Android are most vulnerable to hacking, believe security experts.
Recently, a survey was conducted by Trend Micro about the security features of four mobile operating systems – iOS, Blackberry, Windows and Android. Opinions of independent analysts were included in the survey. The survey revealed Blackberry as the first choice in terms of security while Android was the least preferred by the independent analysts.
With every new day, new malware are being developed by the hackers for smartphones. Smartphone users love the open concept of Android, but it has also led to increased security threats.
“Something really worrying about the Google model, which is also the beauty of that model, is the openness of the environment,” said Cesare Garlati, consumer specialist at security firm Trend Micro, while talking to AFP.
One can easily install an application on an Android phone. In comparison, Apple provides better security with its Appstore which imposes a layer of screening for applications.
“Android’s security model basically says, it is the responsibility of the end user to judge if an application is secure,” said Garlati. Blackberry is best in terms of security due to the fact that it was created as a platform rather than a device.
However, “no platform is immune from problems” thinks Garlati.
