A while ago, Google launched the web version of its SMS app Android Messages. While millions of users across the world are still trying to get used to that roll out, the company is once again adding some cool new features and redesigns to the app. Dark Mode and Material Theme redesign are the latest features to be added to the app, according to 9to5google.

Version 3.4, the latest update being rolled out by Google, enables the Dark Mode. This was made necessary by the fact that the app is now spotting a new Material Theme, which is stark white in color. The lighter secondary colors conversation bubbles and the avatar icons have now been changed to make them bolder.

As against the black backdrop, text, text, buttons, and icons now appear in white color. The Smart Reply chips now uses black text on white bubbles, but that could just be temporary. You can enable the dark mode by going to settings to switch a toggle.

These days, many apps are embracing dark mode and material designs. Google in particular seems to be the forefront and continues to break new grounds in terms of making its apps more attractive to people.

After successfully testing dark mode for a couple of months, YouTube, a Google subsidiary introduced the feature to mobile last March. The web version of dark mode was added sometimes last year, and became instantly popular among users and visitors to the website. At the time, many users thought it won’t be long until the mobile version was added, but that was not to be until months later.

Dark Theme is preferred by many users because of its many benefits. For example, viewing YouTube in a room with dim light does not leave any strain on your eye. It is very unlike the usual way of watching YouTube, especially in an apartment where there is no light or the light is dim.

YouTube formally announced Dark Theme in the middle of last year after it quietly added it to its service without raising an eyebrow. Dark Theme, according to the company, is designed to “cut down” on glare and let you take in the true colors of the videos you watch. It [Dark Theme] turns your background dark, and enriches your YouTube experience.

Last March, a Reddit DiscombobulatedLead spotted the new Google Search look, which apparently confirmed that the search engine giant was working on a refreshing new search-results page. A new material design is in line with Google’s new-found passion—and is already synonimous with some of the company’s products in recent times.

The old layout displays your search results on a white background, while the newly spotted layout displays results in a “card box” with defined borers.

Two years ago, Google made some minor changes such as adding a new iconography for the magnifying glass in the search box. The search giant also switched out the settings cog for the three vertically aligned dots. For Android users, those two changes were not exactly new, but desktop users started seeing them for the first time.
