After recent buzz that a larger Kindle Fire is coming to tech town, a new report says that Amazon is developing an Amazon smartphone to take on the Apple iPhone.
The news comes from Bloomberg which says that Amazon is working with Foxconn International Holdings on an Amazon smartphone.
The publication attributes the scoop to two unnamed “people with knowledge of the matter”.
Foxconn is most famous for being the company which Apple tasks to assemble the iPhone.
Furthermore, the internet retail giant is also taking steps to safeguard its Amazon smartphone against future lawsuits.
“Amazon is seeking to complement the smartphone strategy by acquiring patents that cover wireless technology and would help it defend against allegations of infringement, other people with knowledge of the matter said,” Bloomberg reports.
The publication asserts that an Amazon smartphone will help the company “carve out a slice of the market for advanced wireless handsets” and bolster its ebooks, songs and movies business with a wider range of products.
