Amazon has announced that Kindle Touch Wi-Fi-only and Wi-Fi + 3G devices are now available on pre-order in the UK for an April 27 delivery date.
The American eBook reader maker, and world’s largest online retailer, said that its touchscreen eBook readers would also reach other European countries, including France, Germany, Italy and Spain on the same date.
The Kindle Touch is an upgraded version of the company’s bestselling Kindle devices, which sold like hotcakes in the UK.
Its new touchscreen interface aims to offer easier navigation when turning pages, taking notes and searching.
Adding a touchscreen to the Kindle eBook reader now puts the Kindle Touch as a main rival to Kobo Touch readers sold via WHSmith retail stores.
Amazon said new Kindle Touch eReaders come with the best electronic ink display, claiming paper-like reading even under direct sunlight, without glare.
The company touts the devices will last two months while its storage memory can hold up to 3,000 eBooks.
Amazon added that after the launch of its Kindle eReaders in the UK, users – on average – have bought four times the number of books purchased before acquiring a Kindle.
The Kindle Touch Wi-Fi-only costs £109 while the Kindle Touch Wi-Fi + 3G will set back £169.
