The Amazon Appstore will launch in Europe this summer, a new report says.
According to All Things Digital, citing unnamed “sources familiar with the company’s plans,” this may signal the start of the official sale of the Amazon Kindle Fire internationally.
Furthermore, the site’s Tricia Duyree says that Amazon is likely to “announce next week that it will start accepting submissions from developers soon” for apps to be sold through the Amazon Appstore in Europe.
The Amazon Appstore is a marketplace for apps similar to the Google Play store and the Apple App Store.
With the launch of the Amazon Appstore expected later this summer, Android devices in Europe will get another marketplace to purchase apps from.
The Amazon Appstore was launched in the U.S. in March last year while the Amazon Kindle Fire tablet was launched in the same market about eight months later.
Any specific date for the launch of the Amazon Appstore in Europe was not disclosed by the site’s sources.
