Internet giant Amazon is currently in negotiations with several book publishers with a view to engaging in the creation of an online library of digital books, reports WSJ.
Sources close to the matter note that the online library will be just like the online service Netflix where users have to pay a subscription fee, which gives them access to library content.
It is not yet known how successful the ongoing negotiations are. Sources say that not all the publishers like this idea. Some of them have expressed concern that the project will adversely affect the price of books, and will complicate relations with other retailers involved in selling literature.
Wall Street Journal also reports it is most likely that the digital-book library will feature older titles. It is also possible that its members will become the first users of service Amazon Prime, for which one-year subscription fee is $ 79. Users of this service are entitled to unlimited two-day shipping and access to a digital library of movies and TV shows. Access to this online library would be another bonus for users of the service.
There is no reason not to believe these reports about Amazon’s plans to build an online library, as Internet company is soon launching the sale of tablets under its own brand. And this online library can be a good and interesting reason for people to buy this new hardware.
