It looks like Siri has a new friend and her name is Alexa and it is available for iPhone
If you are using the Amazon app then you have a new friend to help you around. Alexa, the virtual assistant, is available for all iPhone users and they interact with her without owning an Amazon Echo. So Siri is not going to be the only digital assistant on your phone. But, there is a very significant difference. With Apple’s native AI you just say “Hey Siri” to activate it, while with Alexa you have to open the Amazon app and tap on the microphone button in order to activate it. But, what can the virtual assistant do?
The AI helper can obviously help you shop through the Amazon app and track your orders but it also do most of the Alexa things, like give you weather reports, or tell who won the Super Bowl. Also you can test more than more than 10,000 skills. And the e-commerce company gives some examples of what you can ask like: “Search for paper towels”, “Reorder batteries”, “Best-selling camera” and more.
Also you can use it to stream books from your Kindle library and music from Amazon Music Unlimited, Prime Music, or purchased music. If you are an Amazon Prime member you will able to stream playlists, stations, and over two million songs for free. You just have to say the right words to Alexa and let the fun begin. In addition when you play music you will have access to player controls on your screen.
And if you have a question Alexa will be more than happy to answer. The AI assistant can provide information about people, geography, dates, music, sports, and more. Alexa can also spell, define words, complete conversions, and make simple calculations.
Last but not least you can get updates about the news, weather conditions and traffic before you get leave your house. And you have to give your location in order to get the best results.
The smart home owners you will get some of the Alexa skills in order to manage your home with the app. But the feature Door Lock API will not be available. The feature can essentially lock – and unlock – smart locks by companies like Schlage and Yale.
Will Siri feel threatened? Time will show.
