The search engine optimization world keeps on changing but one thing that is always constant is that site owners need content if they want their sites to get ranked.

In this infographic, ContentVerve.com provides 10 straightforward tips on creating content that will get ranked this year. The infographic says this year, we venture, because the SEO field keeps on shifting.

The first tip is to write for humans and optimize for robots. According to this, Google prefers natural content more than obvious SEO stuff. However, perhaps a better reason, as provided by the infographic itself is that there is no point in great rankings if the content does not convert.

The second tip is to forget about keyword density. This might go against what has been said in the SEO field for so long but as this tip sheet suggests, there is no indication that Google favors a certain density of keywords over another density. What may be more important is to use relevant keywords in your copy and to use them naturally. Remember that Google and other search engines punish overly-optimized content.

The third tip is to use related keywords, synonyms and grammatical variations. “Google and other search engines use Latent Semantic Indexing (LSI) to match search results to the intentions of the person performing the search,” the infographic notes. This means that content writers should use synonyms, related keywords and grammatical variations as they make the content relevant, even if a particular query through Google does not contain the exact same keywords.

The fourth tip is to use Google Tilde to find related keywords. Connected to the third tip, related keywords should always be present in the copy as it targets related searches done through Google. According to the infographic, “If you add ~ before a keyword and perform a search, Google will show you a number of related keywords at the bottom of the page that Google finds relevant in relation to your query.” Once you find out what keywords these are, integrate them to your content.

The fifth tip is to write long, in-depth and quality content. According to the infographic, “The average web page ranking on the first page of Google has over 2,000 words.” The infographic also mentions that evidence shows that in-depth articles get more shares and links. As we have always said, people should find value in your content in order for them to engage with it.
