George “Geohot” Hotz’s legal battle with Sony may be over, but hacker/activist group Anonymous has revealed that its battle with the Japanese consumer electronics powerhouse is just beginning.
“Citizens of Anonymous, this is an update on the current operation, operation Sony,” the video showing the character from the movie V for Vendetta began.
“Geohot has taken a settlement from Sony, the case has been dropped. In the eyes of the law, the case is closed. For Anonymous, it is just beginning,” the video continues.
According to the group, Sony has committed “an act of privacy invasion” by forcing social networking sites like YouTube and Facebook to hand over IP addresses of those who have irked them.
“We, Anonymous, will not let this happen,” the group says.
Anonymous says that Sony has tried to explain attacks on its sites by saying they are regular maintenance periods. “We are finding other ways to get Sony’s attention,” the group says.
The video mentions April 16, which may be a date for an attack. Anonymous urges people to boycott Sony and return any Sony product recently bought.
